A reader asked me recently about how to crochet with fabric strips to make floor rugs and other things.
Crochet rag rug fabric strips.
Whether you weave braid knit or crochet your rag rugs the process for making the strips is the same.
Store bought fabric allows you to choose specific colors while t shirts and old sheets.
Once the rug was the right size i bordered it with a white fabric strip single crocheted around the edge.
Cut your fabric into strips and either sew or knot those strips together into a longer strip used as yarn crochet rag rugs are a popular way to recycle old material but you can also purchase yarn to these rugs if you don t have anything you can use on hand.
If you re handy with a crochet hook already you ll find this project both straightforward and very rewarding.
The first step to making rag rugs is turning your rags into yarn for crocheting.
This is a great way to use up old fabric from worn clothing vintage cloths or other sources of fabric items which are looking a bit tatty.
These are sometimes known as rag rugs because they are often made with rag fabrics like old clothes or sheets.
I rolled the fabric into one big ball and crocheted the rug with a 16 mm crochet hook.
To finish the rag rug simply complete the last round trim off the fabric yarn leaving a 6cm tail and then pull the fabric yarn through the loop on the crochet hook and pull to make a knot.
Turn over the work and on the underside weave the tail into the work weave it through the same coloured stitches and attach it properly with a needle.
I used all knit fabrics cut into 1 inch strips and tied the ends together using a square knot.
I have never tried this but i did a little research and put together a collection of blog posts and tutorials that will hopefully.
If you want to make your crochet rag rug bigger you can crochet a longer starting chain adding multiples of four stitches.
