This week travis puts crown moulding up in our main living room.

With a compound miter saw and a nice angle finder you can create transition pieces for the corners out of two smaller pieces.
Cut the mating right hand piece using the same saw settings.
3 1 2 in x 2 3 8 in interior unfinished colonial inside corner moulding block.
Our main living room has vaulted ceilings so it made cutting the crown moulding a little go.
Our first miter cut is going to be on the crown molding that will come along the tallest part of the ceiling and then run into the molding that goes down the slope of the vaulted ceiling.
The best way to do it is to make a small transition piece of crown molding that acts like the crown is being installed on a flat ceiling on one side of the piece but on the other edge it is making a transition as if the crown molding is climbing a stairway making the bend that happens as you transition from the sloped ceiling along the stairs to the flat ceiling below or at a flat landing.
So in the illustration we will be mitering the right side of the crown molding.
